VIrginia is for Lovers (awww!)
Historic Charlottesville
Our Favorite…..POUR: a beer and cider bar with over 75 self serve taps to choose from!
Bob just couldn’t decide.
Monticello - Thomas Jefferson’s Home
Thomas Jefferson - a pretty amazing guy: Our 3rd President, primary author of the Declaration of Independence, champion for religious freedom, founded the University of Virginia, prolific writer and scholar. Here’s the rub. He wrote “all men are created equal” and wrote to support abolishing slavery yet enslaved over 600 people over the course of his life and freed only 7. After his wife died, Jefferson had 4 children with Sally Hemings - one of his slaves. Monticello is now doing a great job of telling the story of Sally Hemings and the enslaved people at Monticello. Very sobering and thought provoking.
University of Virginia
Founded by Thomas Jefferson and a beautiful campus.
I had a little bit of a challenge getting Bob to go because Bob lost his big NCAA tournament bet when UVA won! Once again, Jimmy walked away as the victor - when will Bob ever learn.
Shenandoah National Park
We had a BEAUTIFUL day in the mountains. It was 75 degrees, no humidity and sunny! Perfect.
This park is at the north end of the Blue Ridge Parkway so it’s similar to the Great Smokey Mountains NP ….but with more butterflies.
(Photo tip: you have to take a LOT of pictures of butterflies to get a very few that look decent).
Ants are under control, but Bob does have poison ivy! Of course he does.
